Current D220 School Board of Education member, Katie Karam, responded to the questionnaire proposed by our community members. Her response is provided below in its entirety.
Kiley,
Thank you for reaching out to candidates for Board of Education on this important issue. I truly appreciate SEEN for creating a space where parents can go for help, resources, and encouragement. Given that the BOE and administration are actively working with special education parents to redesign our Special Education Parent Council for the upcoming school year, I do not feel it is appropriate for me to comment further at this time. Special Education remains a priority for myself and the district. I look forward to continuing to hear from all stakeholders, including parents and caregivers, on this matter since 18% of our student population utilizes Student Services and Support and I know there is much I have yet to learn. I will continue to advocate for D220 to meet the goal of "Empowering personal excellence in every learner".
I truly appreciate SEEN's advocacy for all children and look forward to learning more about your organization,
Katie Karam
